That is what author and lecturer Tim Jepson is lucky enough to do as one of the experts on those National Geographic trips we all lust over in the catalogue. Join Tim on a virtual tour to three of the trip’s cultural highlights, the majestic trio of Easter Island, Petra and the Taj Mahal. Finally, dip into one of several passions Tim picked up while living in Italy for many years—olive oil! For this Winter’s Author Series, our beloved Ross King has graciously agreed to return for three lectures drawing on his best-selling books about Renaissance artists Brunelleschi, Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo. Mini Museums Soirée with Sophie Campbell

Monthly on a Monday in 2021 Sophie will take us to her favourite small museums in the capital: often ones you've never heard of, in places you may never have been to, which makes them even more special. We'll hear the background to the museums - what's it about? Why here? What are the best things to see? - and we'll also have interviews with the curators, who will join us on Zoom for the talk and the Q&A.

What makes the British so bonkers? If you are what you eat, perhaps that explains it: this is a nation that happily consumes something called 'bubble and squeak.’

On the other hand, perhaps it is our class system, that famously rigid stratification of citizens, once allegedly evident in accents, clothes and general behaviour. Or is that a load of rubbish now our food is all straightened out and nobody knows what class they are?

Whichever, here’s a chance to investigate the history of class, food, tea versus coffee and the British love for animals. Did they form us, or do they reflect us? And what, precisely, is a glottal stop?
