Breakfast

Morning - Generalife Gardens

Take a guided tour through the quarters once occupied by the courtiers and officials to reach the Generalife Gardens. It may sound like a Midwest insurance company, but it is in fact the summer palace next to the Alhambra, famed for its beautiful gardens. Revel in the lush greenery, beautiful fountains, and exquisite landscaping of these royal gardens, once the summer retreat of the Nasrid rulers. As part of the Alhambra complex, the Generalife Gardens also hold UNESCO World Heritage status, showcasing the splendor of Islamic landscape design.

Lunch - The Parador

Indulge in lunch at the Parador, a gorgeous historic building with its age-old tile roofs and mellow brick walls. Yes, it is inside the extraordinary Alhambra palace complex and even has its own museum. There are gardens, fountains, a cool summer terrace, shady atmospheric interiors with a wonderful art collection, and views straight over the 13th-century summer palace, Generalife.

Afternoon - Manuel de Falla House Museum

It’s a short stroll from lunch to the Manuel de Falla House Museum.  The famous composer Manuel de Falla was a major figure in the musical panorama of the first half of the 20th century.  Prompted by the encouragement of other musicians, Manuel de Falla moved to a “carmen” in Granada in 1922, where he spent almost twenty years. This traditional Granada house now displays items from the composer's personal life, original furniture, gifts from other artists such as Picasso, and even the piano on which he composed many of his pieces.

Artisan stop:  Potters since 1517

If there is time, join Dana on a visit to the Fábrica de Fajalauza Cecilio Morales Moreno, potters since 1517!  This artisanal “factory” is the only one maintaining the centuries-old traditions of production despite the onslaught of the industrial revolution. Dated from 1517, this company has been passed down from father to son since then to the present day, has been located since Nasrid times in the Granada neighborhood of Fajalauza, where we will pay a visit.

Walking tour & Albaicín exploration

Stroll through the charming hilltop neighborhood of Albaicín; you will love this jumble of sugar-white houses with breathtaking views onto the Alhambra and its lifeline, the Darro River.  Visit the Carmen de los Geranios – The house museum of the painter Max Moreau, filled with paintings, and the decorative courtyard, pond and abundant garden.
