Royal Chapel, and the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabel
It’s a 5-minute stroll from our hotel to the Granada Cathedral, where we will visit the Royal Chapel, built between 1505 and 1517. A huge and beautiful church in its own right, it is edged with a delicate stone lace of parapets and pinnacles, and has an exquisite Flemish art collection. The big draw is the crypt, home to the ‘his and hers’ tombs of the joint Catholic monarchs Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabel of Castile. Almost across the street is another, very different, beauty: the Palacio de la Madraza, now part of the university, but formerly a fourteenth-century Islamic school with an exquisite, tranquil interior. It’s now used for exhibitions, lectures and other educational purposes.

Evening - Exclusive private after hours visit to the Alhambra Nasrid Palaces
How sublime! We have secured a private after hours visit to the Alhambra Nasrid Palaces—yes, it will be just us alone in the Alhambra! With our local guide, explore the massive Alhambra complex, the pride of Granada. In the 13th century Granada was a Muslim kingdom under the control of Mohammed ibn Yusuf Ben Nasr (known as Alhamar), the ruler who gave his name to the Nasrid dynasty. The Alhambra was a fortified residence that housed the royal family and the highly political, ultra-competitive court. ‘Alhambra’ means ‘red castle,’ for the beautiful pinky tones of its stone. It started life as a military enclave set on a rocky escarpment, protected by forest and the River Darro. The whole complex dominated the city until Granada was captured by Christian forces in 1492 (hello Ferdinand and Isabella) and went into decline.
